Waste sorting supports Kaarea’s climate goals

Waste sorting is one of the most concrete ways to reduce the environmental impacts of our operations. Correctly sorted waste enables efficient recycling of materials, conserves natural resources, and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill. At the same time, it also lowers our carbon footprint.

At Kaarea, waste sorting is an important part of our environmental work and of achieving the objectives of the Ekokompassi environmental certificate. Increasing the recycling rate through proper sorting is one of the targets of Kaarea’s Ekokompassi environmental certificate. Kaarea was awarded the Ekokompassi certificate in 2025. Its purpose is both to reduce the negative environmental impacts of our operations and to identify positive impacts. Our goal is to raise the recycling rate and ensure that waste is directed to the correct waste fractions.

Our environmental work is visible in everyday operations through clear sorting practices at property and worksite locations. Staff have been trained in correct waste sorting, and both at worksites and at Kaarea’s recycling storage facility you can find waste skips clearly labelled by waste fraction. When sorting is carried out carefully and according to the instructions, it delivers not only environmental benefits but also cost savings. Proper sorting is therefore both an environmental action and responsible use of resources.

We also promote waste sorting in cooperation with our partners. Subcontractors and their employees are required to commit to common sorting practices so that environmental responsibility is implemented throughout the entire value chain.

Waste sorting is a small action during workday, but it makes difference in the big picture. When everyone participates, we build a more sustainable and responsible future.
