Kaarea

A service coordinator’s job is never boring

I work as a service coordinator at Kaarea’s senior centres and care homes in the Turku area. My work involves helping and directing employees, and sometimes filling in for facility managers. There are around thirty facility managers and cleaners in my area.

My work day begins with checking absences and finding substitutes if necessary. Then I visit sites to gather employees’ questions and feedback. Sometimes I fill in as a substitute myself.

I began my career at the Runosmäki senior centre, then found other jobs elsewhere. I returned to Kaarea as a facility manager in 2022 – it was a familiar and pleasant place to come back to. Later, I was asked to become a service coordinator and with some encouragement from my colleagues, I decided to accept.

The best thing about being a service coordinator is that no two days are the same; you don’t get bored in this job. My job is suitably challenging and flexible; for example, I can decide where and when to fill in a substitute. At Kaarea, supervisors listen to staff and take idea for development on board. The work community is also very encouraging, and success is rewarded. I wholeheartedly recommend Kaarea as an employer!
