Summer work at Kaarea

Varied summer work as a caterer

In 2024, 21-year-old foreign languages student Anna worked as a caterer at TYKS’ food centre, where Kaarea prepares hospital meals for patients at the main hospital. Anna’s work involved distributing food to patients via distribution lines and washing dishes.

“The best thing about the job was my colleagues – there were lots of people my own age that I really got on well with, which made work really enjoyable. Working as a caterer was so varied that no two days were ever the same,” says Anna.

Summer work at your own pace as a facility manager

18-year-old upper secondary school student Dani worked as a facility manager throughout June at Kaarea’s Kulkurin Valssi site. It was his second summer at Kaarea.

Dani’s job as a facility manager involved a wide range of tasks, such as scrubber drying and mopping floors, cleaning and maintaining common areas and rooms, basic cleaning, window cleaning, and cleaning between occupants.

“The best thing about this job was that I got to do things at my own pace. Help was readily available if I needed it – my colleagues were eager to help if things got busy. It was also great that I could set my own pace and decide how and in what order to get things done,” Dani says.

Learning on the job as a painter

21-year-old painting student Sanni worked as a painter at Kaarea’s property services from June until early August.

My job description included a little bit of everything – I painted interiors and walls, outdoor railings, flagpoles, and rubbish bins. The best thing about my job was how varied it was. I like that I didn’t have to do the same thing every day,” explains Sanni.

“Induction gave me a good idea of my job description. We worked together for the first three weeks and then for two weeks after that, I filled in for Sanna while she was on holiday. I’ve learnt a lot – all kinds of new skills and knowledge, and I can even take care of my studies at the same time,”, says Sanni.

Communications interns handle a wide range of tasks

25-year-old business student Jenna spent her summer at Kaarea’s administration working as a communications intern. In addition to her summer job, she also completed a period of work experience included as part of her studies at university.

“I photographed and filmed material, then edited it to create content for various projects, participated in Kaarea’s brand photoshoots, produced content for internal communications, monitored communication channels, and handled various office tasks,” Jenna explains.

“I really love the diversity, creativity, and hybrid working at different locations. My colleagues gave me a warm welcome and have been very kind and helpful, which means it’s always nice to come to work,” Jenna adds happily.
