Proper use of cleaning agents supports environmental goals in Kaarea’s cleaning services

Kaarea was awarded the Ekokompassi certificate in 2025. The aim of the certificate is to reduce the negative environmental impacts caused by our operations, and to identify and strengthen their positive effects. In cleaning services, a key Ekokompassi goal is the correct dilution and use of cleaning agents.

In Kaarea’s cleaning services, environmental work has been carried out in a systematic manner for a long time; the work started even before the Ekokompassi targets were introduced. For example, the use of trash bags and waste sacks has been reduced in a planned way, and cleaning agents have been replaced with more bio-based and environmentally friendly alternatives. Now, cleaning services are developing the correct dilution and use of cleaning agents, which is one of Kaarea’s Ekokompassi targets. Efficient and proper use of cleaning agents has a direct impact on both the environment and costs. It reduces the carbon footprint and decreases negative environmental impacts.

The consumption of cleaning agents is monitored regularly to ensure that they are used in exactly the right amount, neither too much nor too little. This is particularly important, for example, in healthcare sites where cleaning agents cannot be fully replaced or omitted.

To support correct dosing, we produce clear instructions for the use of cleaning agents and ensure they are easily accessible in day-to-day work. In addition, we invest in training on the proper use of surface-cleaning cloths, as correct work methods support both cleaning results and controlled use of cleaning agents.

Staff competence plays a key role in achieving the targets. That is why we train our personnel regularly and ensure everyone has up-to-date information and understanding of responsible ways of working. Continuous monitoring, guidance, and training move us step by step, systematically, towards our shared environmental goals.
